TIMIKA, PAPUA — Climbing Carstensz Pyramid is proud to announce the official resumption of guided expeditions to Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya, 4,884 m)—the highest peak in Oceania and one of the world's coveted Seven Summits.

Following a temporary operational suspension due to regional security dynamics, our team utilized the hiatus to conduct a comprehensive overhaul of our expedition operations. Every protocol—from high-altitude risk management and emergency response to guide certification—has been refined to meet international safety standards.

Pioneering Logistics: The Timika Advantage

Navigating access to the Sudirman Range has historically been one of the greatest logistical hurdles in Papuan mountaineering. Having pioneered various approach routes over the past two decades—including classic jungle treks via Sugapa and Ilaga, mine-transit operations, and direct air charters—our operational data confirms that Timika serves as the ultimate departure hub.

Operating out of Timika offers several key benefits for climbing teams:

  • Maximized Summit Success: Streamlined air logistics minimize transit delays and conserve energy for the technical climb.

  • Enhanced Safety Standards: Direct operational oversight from Timika ensures rapid medical evacuation routes and reliable weather tracking.

  • Unblemished Track Record: All past expeditions pioneered by our team have been executed with an impressive zero-fatality record.

What to Expect on the Mountain

Carstensz Pyramid remains one of the world's most unique high-altitude rock climbs. Unlike traditional snow-and-ice peaks among the Seven Summits, Carstensz demands technical rock climbing skills (up to grade 5.8) along exposed limestone ridges and Tyrolean traverses.

"Our team is fully prepared to welcome climbers back to Papua," said our Lead Expedition Strategist. "The mountain is as majestic and wild as ever, and our commitment to providing safe, world-class expeditions remains unshakeable."

Registration & Schedules Now Open
